Belgrade PlayOut Open 2019

Updated: Feb 5

The inaugural tennis tournament organized by PlayOut Tennis was in Belgrade, the last weekend in May 2019. This historic event in South east Europe was attended by 85 players, and it was played on clay courts at the tennis club Partizan, where Novak Đoković, Ana Ivanović, Janko Tipsarević and other successful Serbian players started their international careers.

The tournament officially started with the reception in the U.S. ambassador's residency in Belgrade on Thursday, 30 May. After a bus ride through the city, we arrived to the second part of the player's welcome party - the registration - at the iconic restaurant Mala Fabrika Ukusa (meaning little factory of tastes) – a place where traditional local foods meet modern presentation and finger-food style.

After a sunny Friday and a day packed with tennis, matches had to be cancelled on Saturday due to constant rain. However, in the evening players gathered to enjoy the player’s dinner party at the boat restaurant Karibi on the Danube River.

On the final day we were lucky with the weather and were able to finish all matches, even though we were forced to shorten the format of play.

In cooperation with one of our partners for the tournament, Citizens for Europe, we secured financial support to launch our Belgrade PlayOut Open 2019 outreach program. With their support, we were able to help a few players with making their wish to join the GLTA's first ever event in the Balkans come true.

We want to thank all the players for coming and helping us to start our journey. Congratulations to all our champions, finalists and consolation winners.
